What the nine (9) layers of the anterior abdominal wall you cut through during an open abdominal procedure?



Answer

There are nine layers to the anterior abdominal wall and they are (from superficial to deep):

  1. Skin
  2. Camper’s fascia
  3. Scarpa’s fascia
  4. External oblique
  5. Internal oblique
  6. Transversus abdominis
  7. Tranasversalis fascia
  8. Preperitoneal fat
  9. Peritoneum
